Awakening Kate‘s Playground

Interview Review Group Seven Star Green.

a while ago comrades Review Group s Seven Star Green had the courtesy of an interview where I had the opportunity to answer, in depth, on various issues of political reality independentism canary lives today. I'll post and share with you the contents of the interview below, I hope you like it.
I again congratulate the comrades of the Group of Seven Star Green rating for the work of reflection that are taking place between the different positions that exist within the independence movement Islands. It seems a brave and thankless exercise which unfortunately has become scarce in recent times. I think the spaces where they can provide calm and comparison of political positions of individuals, showing a plurality of sovereigntist movement in the Canary Islands are very positive and necessary, in these times where for some it is a powerful means to build and transmit a new discourse in the service of the bourgeoisie Canaries thankfully many men and women actively reject.

Ascanio Rubens Gomez: "I consider it essential to return to strategic sectors of our economy to advance our food sovereignty"
Born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the year 1976. He graduated in History from the University of La Laguna, where he collaborated in the creation of Ethnographic Rescue Collective "Birmagen" in 1995 and, as an intern in the development of the archaeological map of southern Tenerife. Together with Samir Delgado has published the book "De Guajara to Tafira, Canary cruises Student Movement" in 2006.
His first steps into politics were at Alternative Ecologist Tagoror (TEA) in 1994, forming part of the year following the nomination of Green Left - Izegzawen. Between 1995-2002 he participated in the youth group Azarug where he was elected for a term member of its National Coordinator. Between 1997 and 2002 was also part of Students Union Islands (SEC), one of their spokesmen in the Senate. In 2002 he joined Alternativa Popular Canaria (APC), where he has been a member of the National Coordinator until 2007.
Since its inception has actively participated in Alternative Yes We Can by Tenerife as an activist, first in the local committee and currently Aguere in Santa Cruz. In Tenerife Yes We Can by working with the Department of Communication insular.
point out that in 2008 launched his personal blog, called "The Tin gofio."

- Do you think that the independence movement has a future in the Canaries?
believe that not only has a future, I think it's the only way we can continue to develop fully as a society. It is true that in the last twenty years we have experienced an increasingly intense process of decline of our national identity has not been the result of causality or of fashion, responds to a clear political strategy in which the three main parties in the islands have been fully complicit.
We must also recognize our own faults in the current situation. I think the division of acronyms and factions, and the failure of a sector of the independence of working with people with other sensitivities within the left is causing an acute ideological isolation. One sign of this we have a rather sharp right turn in the discourse and forms a section of the independence movement, which seems to have given up on real work with the people's demands for release in the hands of media diehards, xenophobic and islands as "The Day." This, together with the possibilities that Internet to turn to anyone with a computer, ADSL and free time in a "political organization" absolutely empty of content, is helping some people in this area will increasingly move away from reality and social policy of our country.
For the reasons the turn of the right sectors of media and political insularity to some flirting with the sovereign believe that by applying criteria of historical materialism can only explain it for economic reasons. I sincerely closely tied to an emerging economic competition with sections of the bourgeois state and the probable existence of hydrocarbons in Canarian waters. The question is whether it is worthwhile to accompany them in their wars for power ... I believe that this is not.

- What is the current situation Canaria Popular Alternative? Alternativa Popular Canaria
emerged in 2002 to try to give a political response to the situation of organizational decline we lived in the independence movement and left the Canary Islands as a whole. It was basically a process launched from a separatist organization as Azarug, in which many militábamos, but wanted to consciously open to a wide range of people from the nationalist left, inherited from other spaces and political times, people from the world trade union academic, environmental, cultural ... In this positive line of integration and consolidation of the Canarian left all the documents elaborated strategy of our organization, which can be accessed by anyone on our website and were approved by large majorities.
in 2006 opened a difficult process internal debate, especially in Tenerife where mobilizations in response to various environmental assaults such as Puerto de Granadilla or Via Exterior had increasingly significant. This added to the generation of an organized social response growing districts and villages, where some / Colleagues of APC were present along with other groups. This experience working constructively with other organizations and social movements generated an intense debate about the need for an effective policy response to this social disenchantment. In our analysis we appreciate that for this purpose mainly APC alone was insufficient and saw a reorganization necessary forces deep within a broader process even where APC has played and plays an important role. Parallel with a peer group chose to propose a shift to supposedly purer positions on the national question and a return to isolation that has so damaged the contemporary independence movement. This position was a minority in the organization as demonstrated in two assemblies island of Tenerife and the national December 2006, with the outcome of the voluntary departure of some colleagues to form new organizations or join existing ones, despite attempts of many people in both positions to avoid this eventuality.
In APC last four years and participated with Canary AC25M in elections of 2007 we celebrated our First National Conference in 2008 and the Fourth National Assembly in 2009 where he has kept the original idea of \u200b\u200bcollaboration and coordination for Canary left major fronts. Tenerife This process has resulted in our integration into Alternative Tenerife Yes you can, as one of its founding organizations, similar situation occurs in other islands where APC has militants.
personally think that despite all the difficulties that we find the left nationalists in a process of convergence with people who in many cases do not share 100% our political positions, the unit generates a much more comprehensive and less fundamentalist in our reality. I think that we have pretty clear that APC is a small progress process for the sum of them our social and national freedom. In this connection, for example that Councilman Alternative Yes We Can in Granadilla Tenerife has set up a system of municipal land banks to support agriculture, creating jobs at the same time, it is a good example of in-line real food sovereignty, as well as to develop alternative proposals with the residents of Santa Cruz helps organize social response or actively mobilize against the Port Granadilla, Via Exterior or trains helps keep our natural heritage. This set of small steps, in our opinion, the only way forward in a process of collective organization that truly help our nation building. Without that no previous work from within the Canary Islands may impose anything, nor indeed from any international body or dream as some claim. I do not think that more independence but the more I cry more collective responses generated at the foot of the street to our problems.

- What about the attempt to link unions as Inter Canaria and groups as part ETA Atamarazayt certain media?
I find a sample unfortunate pursuit of legitimate political ideas and people that defend them. Unfortunately it is an easy way that traditionally have been adopted since the power to attack and terrorize, is nothing new. When in 2001 the Canary Students Union organized some of the largest student protests in recent decades in the archipelago also receive the same treatment by the same means, as we did in Azarug and so had to Initiative suffer La Orotava in the last elections, although in this case it seems that by people who called themselves leftists. Seems to be a "law of life" in a society like ours where colonialism still survive, fear the chief along with an alarming lack of interest in politics it helps to use such strategies.

- How Azarug lived in that of "Jarrai in Tenerife, which he published in La Gaceta de Canarias home in time?
The truth that was a really difficult summer for some kids and pibas that time had only twenties or even less. When you are a member of an organization that had for several consecutive summers, thousands of young people moving about serving youth meetings to fellowship Islands and raise awareness of people who use the media as a battering ram to appear normal. In those weeks we live in a constant police harassment and media that I am convinced that had as its main justification impair the process had been developing implantation Azarug. When you can not be accused of anything it easier for the system is endosarte any label that may damage the serious work done in years. A striking issue in this case is that the director of that newspaper is currently leading opinion columnists of The Day ", one of the" miracle converted "to the sovereign, how strange is not it?.

- Changing the subject, what business model you like for the Canaries? Canary
I think we should move towards a new social and political model in the wake of the projects that defend the XXI century socialism where social control premium economy for the irrationality of savage capitalism.
In defending the economic development, countries, environment and all the people should be the main actors in front of a model we have today where a few multinationals are speculating with our food, our money or our land for private gain millionaires at any cost, regardless of future generations.
Of course in this model as fundamental recover strategic sectors of our economy such as fishing, agriculture or livestock necessary to advance our food sovereignty. Moreover, we advance our energy sovereignty fully exploiting the development of clean energy which many experts believe that global relevance Canaries might be a reference, it also creates jobs and saves us astronomical spending on imported fossil fuels.
If you want a practical example of my view of the direct way we can put our economy for the hotel business in the Canaries. Today corporations and business federations in this sector demand public money to renovate the hotels and tourist resorts that have become obsolete. Of course the role of PP, PSOE and DC was to join the chorus helpfully requesting public funding for that funding comes from the taxes we pay all of those who, instead of lead to the collective benefit, are used to favor some tour companies that for decades have taken money to baskets of Canary. These same companies have not reinvested in the maintenance or improvement, looking for quick profits, also paying miserable wages. In a socialist model that public investment would be made on a case by case and a clear counterpart based on public control of such infrastructure, basic to our current development, generating direct economic benefits to the whole population, at least until the loan is recovered. This alone could save many hundreds of millions in spending and generate wealth for reinvestment in the entire population.

- Why do you think you do not need the Port of Granadilla?
El Puerto de Granadilla represents a further step in the development model currently raw wild in the Canary Islands. This infrastructure has been rejected by much of the scientific community has managed to mobilize many tens of thousands of people against him, has environmental reports that discourage its implementation threatens protected areas directly affects Sebadales and other marine life for a resource that can be sustainable as fishing, and clearly ignored its effects on the contribution of sand to the southern beaches. To make matters worse, Yes We Can, through our council in the area, have made public technical reports reveal that at the height of the work would be hired only 45 people and that the wind regime in the port area would be inoperative for the movement of containers and other tasks almost 58% days of the year. All these data make this work on an expensive whim without justification, designed to keep happy a few stomachs grateful for our country, used to buy political will in return receive the maximum amount of public resources.

- And finally, what was your best moment in politics?
The truth is I've been fortunate to share many real good time in various organizations. The Students Union Canario undoubtedly shaped me profoundly personal and political level, I am convinced that was the arrangement with a significant percentage of independence, which most power real policy has had on the recent history of the Canary Islands are also to be an excellent pool of militants. APC
De Azarug and remember with affection beautiful victory that meant ending the parade of the Banner of the Conquest in Aguere. But I think right now I'm living inside Yes, You Can my political moment nicer, where we really work closely with different sensitivities within the left Canary enriches me, makes me grow personally and also allows us to feel partners in first line of important events in specific struggles as against the Port of Granadilla, the pitch of The Teresitas, the public transport model or the Santa PGO Cruz. Now more than ever I feel that my small efforts have a real impact on our environment and it undoubtedly marks a great political moment, at least for me.
